Villány Region

Southernmost wine region in Hungary. One of the top 3 premier red wine regions in
Hungary, famous for its concentrated and full-bodied reds, especially Cabernet Franc which
has found its new home here with its distinctive full-bodied style that differs from all other
regions for Cabernet Franc cultivation throughout the world.

   

Bock Estate

Family-owned winery that is widely considered to be one of the very best and most
successful in Hungary. The Bock family has been growing vines and producing wine in the
Villány wine region since 1850.

A love of wine and the winemaking craft has been handed down from father to son over nine
generations. Today the estate processes 145 hectares, producing 36 types of wine.
To this day the Bock Estate operates as a family winery. József Bock runs the company
together with his children and expects his grandchildren to join them in the future. Their
work has earned them countless awards, including the national award for the most beautiful
Wine Estate in 2014.

Their wines are made from grapes grown on Villány’s prestigious slopes: Jammertál,
Ördögárok, Fekete-hegy, Bocor, Csillagvölgy, and Kopár.

Vojtek

Small family-owned winery of 8 hectares with 3 vineyards located at one of the most famous
vineyards in Villány, at the foot of Jammertal hill.
Run by the Vojtek family, father Csaba takes care of the winemaking, son Balasz is taking
care of the business part, daughter Fanni works as cellar hand while another son Túcsök
takes care of the vineyard.

Szekszárd Region

Also located in the south, Szekszárd is another premier red wine region famous for
producing high quality, ripe and full-bodied reds in Hungary.

One of the two regions that produce Bull’s Blood (Bikaver).

Vesztergombi

The Vesztergombi family has been growing grape and making wines since the 1700’s,
according to written records. The family coat of arms of this time clearly refers to the winegrowing
history.

The current Vesztergombi family winery was restarted in 1991, in 1993 Ferenc Vesztergombi
was selected as Hungary’s “Winemaker of the Year”, and now he is joined by his son Csaba
Vesztergombi in the business.

Vesztergombi winery currently grows grapes on 27 hectares of land at 6 different vineyards
and is considered to be one of the best wineries in the Szekszard region as well as in the whole
of Hungary.

Eger Region

Located in the northeast of the country, Eger is another premier red wine producing region
of Hungary, with its cooler climate, produces more elegant style of reds compared to Villány
and Szekszárd .

Famous worldwide for its Bull’s Blood (Egri Bikaver) red blend.

Bolyki

A dramatically located, family-owned winery that is tucked inside a former stone quarry.
The quarry is on 3.2 hectares of land with four mine pits which are connected to each other
by tunnels. The estate has nine wine cellars.

Established in 1998, Bolyki winery distinguishes itself by its colourful and joyful looking
labels and a creative spirit that pushes the quality bar higher by each harvest.

 

Demeter Zoltán

Legendary winemaker in Tokaj, widely considered to be one of the very best winemakers in
Tokaj region, if not the best.

Worked with Istvan Szepsy to build the Királyudvar brand. He cares deeply about preserving
Tokaj’s cultural legacy, his foundation created a memorial park for Tokaj’s key figures,
reissued historic documents, and launched wine photography competitions.
Demeter’s winery is based in a landmark-protected 18th-century building in downtown
Tokaj, where soft classical music fills the pristine space of perfectly aligned oak barrels. He
was the first to make pezsgő, champagne-style bubbles, in Tokaj, and both his dries and
sweet aszús are among the very best.

   

Balassa

Balassa István, a shining star of the new generation of Tokaj winemakers.
He is keen to express the complex volcanic soil of Tokaj through his wines. He does this by
producing single-vineyard wines, splitting them by the soil’s mineral composition —
rhyolite, andesite, and quartz.

His own vineyard only has 17.6 hectares across 11 vineyards with 45 plots in the wine region
in the vicinity of Tokaj, Tarcal and Mád.

 

Tokaj Region

Located in northeastern Hungary and southeastern Slovakia.

While Tokaj is known primarily for its sweet dessert wines, the region also produces dry
wines made from grapes such as Furmint and Hárslevelű. The region has been designated
as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its long history and unique winemaking traditions.
