Vida Péter Idyll Szekszárdi Bikavér 2022

$55.00

Kpo says: Juicy, spicy and ridiculously easy to drink — this is Bikavér (Bull’s Blood) without the heavy armour!

Grapes: 60% Kékfrankos, 20% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc & Cabernet Sauvignon combined, 8% Kadarka, 3% Syrah

Idyll is Vida Péter’s elegant interpretation of Szekszárdi Bikavér (Bull’s Blood of Szekszard), the historic red blend of Szekszárd. Built around Kékfrankos and complemented by Kadarka and other traditional blending varieties, it captures the Vida family’s philosophy that great Szekszárd reds should be fragrant, fresh and refined rather than simply powerful.
Fruit is selected from several of the estate’s vineyards, with each variety vinified separately before blending. The wine is matured in Hungarian oak, adding gentle structure and complexity while allowing the vibrant fruit and characteristic spice of Kékfrankos and Kadarka to remain at the forefront.
Ripe cherry, raspberry and dark berries mingle with violet, black pepper and sweet spice. The palate is juicy and beautifully balanced, with lively acidity, fine-grained tannins and subtle savoury notes leading to a long, elegant finish.
A wonderfully expressive modern Bikavér — layered and complex enough for serious wine lovers, yet fresh and effortlessly drinkable at the table.

Producer

Vida Péter is one of the defining producers of modern Szekszárd and a passionate champion of Hungary’s indigenous grape varieties. Founded as a family estate and built over more than three decades, the winery today farms 23 hectares across some of Szekszárd’s finest valleys and vineyards.

Named Hungary’s Winemaker of the Year in 2011, Péter Vida has long believed that the true identity of Szekszárd lies not in powerful international-style reds, but in elegant, expressive wines based on Kadarka, Kékfrankos and the historic Bikavér blend.

Today, the next generation of the Vida family continues this philosophy, combining careful vineyard work with a fresh, increasingly precise approach in the cellar. Particular attention is given to preserving and revitalising Kadarka, including the estate’s remarkable century-old Bonsai vines and their selected descendants.

The result is a distinctly Szekszárd style: fragrant, elegant and full of character, with freshness and drinkability always taking precedence over sheer power.
