Davino

The Davino emblem is more than a logo. Inspired by the Grail, it symbolizes wine as a gift—shaped by the land, guided by devotion, and transformed through time. The chalice represents offering and reward, where vineyard and craftsmanship meet. The eye at its center reflects awareness, precision, and respect for terroir. Marked with “Dei Donum” — a gift, the emblem expresses Davino’s belief in humility, origin, and care. A symbol where nature’s gift becomes wine.

Davino is Romania’s wine aristocracy and a founding force of the country’s super-premium wine sector. Established in 1997 in the highly regarded Dealu Mare DOC by Dan Balaban, Davino was among the first private wineries to emerge after the fall of communism, setting a new national benchmark for quality from its inception. Since 1998, the estate has been led by winemaker Bogdan Costachescu, whose technical expertise and stylistic clarity have been instrumental in Davino’s long-term consistency and reputation.

Davino’s wines are recognised as reference standards by the universities of Bucharest and Iași, reflecting the winery’s precision, reliability, and educational significance. Today, Davino occupies a leading position within Romania’s wine landscape and is widely regarded as one of Eastern Europe’s most accomplished producers of indigenous grape varieties, while also excelling in refined blends with classic French grapes. This status is further underlined by Davino being the only Romanian winery awarded four stars in Hugh Johnson’s Wine Guide.

The winery is dedicated to estate-grown viticulture, cultivating approximately 90 hectares of vineyards across the prestigious Ceptura commune. A combination of clay and limestone soils contributes structure, balance, and age-worthiness to the portfolio, producing both expressive reds and elegant whites.

In the cellar, Davino follows a low-intervention approach, favouring spontaneous fermentation with ambient yeasts and minimal sulphur additions to preserve purity and terroir expression. Its diverse portfolio spans leading international varieties alongside Romania’s most important native grapes, unified by a commitment to consistent, benchmark quality, with organic certification targeted for 2028.
